Building a strong maintenance foundation with Nidhix

In every industry, reliability is the heartbeat of productivity. Yet, many organizations still treat maintenance as reactive fixing breakdowns instead of preventing them. At Nidhix, we believe maintenance should be a strategy, not an afterthought. A clear maintenance strategy document is the first step toward achieving reliability excellence. It transforms maintenance from cost into a value driver and guide teams with structure, consistency, and data-backed decision making.

Why a maintenance strategy document matters?

At Nidhix, we deliver a well-structured Preventive Maintenance Inspection document. It helps organizations:

  • Reduce Downtime: Identify critical assets and apply the right maintenance tactics.
  • Enhance Reliability: Align maintenance plans with asset performance goals and business production targets.
  • Optimize Costs: Eliminate unnecessary work and extend asset life cycle.
  • Support Compliance & Safety: Keep your documentation audit-ready and aligned with standard operating procedure and templates.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Use feedback from failures analysis and inspections to evolve strategies over time.

What Nidhix delivers?

We don’t just prepare documents, we build systems that work in the real world. Our Maintenance Strategy Documents include:

  • Clear asset hierarchy and criticality assessments
  • Defined maintenance tactics (Preventive, Predictive, Corrective or Run-to-Failure)
  • Detailed inspection and lubrication schedules
  • Spare parts management strategies linked to maintenance strategy
  • Failure Mode & Effect Analysis
  • Measurable acceptable limits to track performance

Every document is tailored to your maintenance inspection template, ensuring that reliability isn’t just planned, it’s achieved in real world.

Maintenance Strategy Program for Green Energy

Nidhix’s Maintenance Strategy Optimisation service focuses on refining and optimising existing preventive maintenance programs using best practices such as equipment criticality assessment, failure mode and effects methodology (FMEA), and safety skill utilisation. Although primarily applied to traditional industries, the approach can be effectively adapted to renewable energy assets such as solar farms, wind turbines, and battery storage systems.

  1. Applying the Strategy to Green Energy Assets
    • Asset Criticality & Failure-Mode Prioritisation – Identify key components within the renewable energy system (e.g., turbine gearbox, inverter, or tracking system). Apply FMEA or similar methodologies to determine failure modes, consequences, and prioritisation based on criticality. This enables the development of a risk-ranked maintenance plan focused on high-impact assets.
    • Preventive / Condition-Based / Predictive Maintenance – Develop a balanced maintenance plan combining preventive, condition-based, and predictive strategies. Leverage IoT sensors and predictive analytics to shift from time-based to condition-based interventions, reducing unnecessary maintenance and improving uptime.
    • CMMS and Data Analytics Integration – Implement or optimise a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to manage asset data, maintenance history, and work orders. Integrate condition monitoring and IoT data into the CMMS for data-driven maintenance decisions.
    • Lifecycle Cost & Sustainability Considerations – Consider full lifecycle costs, including maintenance, downtime, and end-of-life disposal. Integrate sustainability goals by designing maintenance plans that extend asset life and promote component recyclability.
    • Reliability, Availability, Maintainability (RAM) Targets – Define and monitor RAM targets such as Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), Mean Time To Repair (MTTR), and asset availability. Align maintenance activities and resource allocation to achieve these targets.
    • Continuous Improvement & Feedback Loop – Implement a feedback mechanism where lessons from maintenance and failure analysis feed back into strategy updates. Conduct regular reviews, root cause analysis, and KPI monitoring to drive continuous improvement.
    • Tailoring to Green-Energy Specifics – Account for unique conditions such as remote locations, environmental exposure, and accessibility constraints. Use remote monitoring technologies, drones, and safe work planning to maintain operational continuity.
  2. Implementation Roadmap
    • Phase 1 – Assessment: Review existing maintenance programs, asset registers, and CMMS data.
    • Phase 2 – Strategy Development: Develop optimised maintenance strategies for each asset group.
    • Phase 3 – Integration & Execution: Implement CMMS configurations, train personnel, and launch pilots.
    • Phase 4 – Continuous Improvement: Monitor KPIs, review performance, and refine the strategy.
  3. Expected Benefits
    • Reduced unplanned downtime and maintenance costs.
    • Improved reliability and asset availability.
    • Extended equipment life and enhanced sustainability.
    • Data-driven insights and continuous optimisation.
  4. Risks & Mitigations
    • Data quality issues – validate sensors and clean data regularly.
    • Remote site access limitations – schedule maintenance windows.
    • Change management resistance – provide training and change leadership.
    • Spare parts delays – implement a critical spares management plan.

By integrating Nidhix’s maintenance strategy optimisation principles with renewable energy system requirements, organisations can achieve higher efficiency, lower costs, and improved sustainability. A structured, data-driven maintenance approach supports the reliable operation and growth of green-energy infrastructure.

My Life as a Marine Engineer

Commissioning new Container Vessel
Third Engineer on Duty

The life of a Marine Engineer is amazing. They see places, travel around the world, earn more money, make new friends, etc. etc…. But Wait! Wait! Wait! Lets come to basics

  • People know very less about Marine Engineers and their lives. One of the rumors being they have to serve 6 months on-board followed by a leave of 6 months. That’s actually not true. It solely depends on the nature of engagement and contract between you and your company.
  • Let’s come to the harsh realty of troubleshooting. Nothing makes you happier when you find a problem and fix it. But then with limited resources, less time and manpower on board, it is challenging.
  • The engine room temperature is more than 40 degree Celsius.
  • The Sea is not always calm. You might feel sea-sick. I faced rolling up to 30 degrees and trust me that was a routine for us.
  • The cost of making phone calls from ship’s satellite phone was USD19 for 15 min’s.

But yes, there are some advantages being a Marine Engineer

  • You get to work with people from different countries, cultures, races, background and it makes you learn about many a things about the world and it’s versatility.
  • A Marine Engineer certificate is accepted universally and the job prospects are relatively wider than you can even imagine.
  • Marine engineering makes you confident. Confident enough to face any challenges, be it onboard or at home.

I have spend more than 6 years working as a Marine Engineer. Most of my time was spent on large container ships. During this time, I have experienced good times such as Travelling around, Dry docking, Commissioning new ships and Enjoying Sundays with crew. I have also seen some bad times like Pirate encounters in Indian Ocean, injured crew member, fire in engine room, sleepless nights during bad weather conditions, etc.

The life is good and not as bad as it seems. Remember we are humans, the most adaptable creature on the planet. Once you are into it, you will be through it as well. All you have to do is to push your limits, try and rise.

– Dinesh Chawda (Marine Engineer 2005-2012)
